Verdugo Hills Council's Fall Events 2022

Extreme Merit Badge Weekend, 9/10-9/11  Join us for Merit Badge Weekend at Camp Verdugo Oaks, brought to you by the Verdugo Hills Advancement Committee! Merit badges offered: Art, First Aid, Indian Lore, Lifesaving, Pioneering, Public Speaking, Radio, Search and Rescue, and Swimming.
 
VHC Camporee, 10/14-10/16  Camporee is a Council-wide annual event designed to emphasize the patrol method, allow Scouts to put their outdoor skills to use, and test how well patrols work together while competing against other Scout patrols. Teamwork is essential for success! This year's theme: "Top Fun!"
 

The 47th Annual Big Strike Auction - "Gather Around the Campfire," 10/21  Join us for live and silent auctions with dinner and cocktails in support of our Scouting community. SHOW YOUR SUPPORT through event sponsorships or donations!  This year's event is at the University Club of Pasadena, 175 North Oakland Avenue, Pasadena 91101. More information and registration here.

Cub Scout Haunt-On, 10/28-10/30  It’s Haunting time! Come join Verdugo Hills Council Cub Scouts in a ghoulishly fun weekend at Camp Verdugo Oaks. This event is open to all registered Cub Scouts (Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos) and their families. Haunt-On kicks off at 4:00pm Friday, 10/28, and concludes 12:00pm Sunday, 10/30.

Scouting for Food, 11/5 & 11/12  This event is a VHC Scouting tradition! Scouts collect non-perishable food items from designated neighborhoods. Drop off your donation bags on 11/5 to homes and pick them up on 11/12. Ask your unit SFF Coordinator about the location of your service area donation center.

 

 

Tri-Council Wood Badge, 9/16-9/18 AND 10/8-10/9  Scout leaders, this course will help you better understand how all the Scouting programs tie together. It will provide you with many useful leadership tools to help enable our youth to have the best possible Scouting experience. Participants must attend both weekends.

The Fundamentals of Training & The Trainer's E.D.G.E., 9/25  VHC is offering two BSA's trainer development courses that teaching techniques and skills to new Scout trainers but are also designed to help all Scouters, regardless of their experience, present effective training. Remember: leaders are trainers, and trainers are leaders.

 

Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training (SMs, ASMs), 10/15 Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training (SMPST) is the BSA’s initial level of training for adult leaders of Scouts BSA troops. It is designed primarily for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. When Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) have both been completed, adult leaders are considered “Trained” and will have the tools needed to conduct an effective Scouting program. Offered during Camporee (see above).

BALOO, 11/5-11/6  Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is an overnight course for Cub Scout Leaders interested in adding a camping outing to their Pack activities and includes an overnight hands-on practical session at Camp Verdugo Oaks.

IOLS, 11/5-11/6  Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills is a hands-on course that gives adult leaders the practical skills to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. The skills taught will introduce the participants to most of the basic Scout outdoor skills from Tenderfoot through the First Class rank, and we teach you how to teach the Scouts what you learn in this course. Experienced campers and hikers are welcome, as are novices who are new to outdoor adventures.
