Part 4 of A Scoutmaster's Four-Part Basic Training Sequence
IOLS is a hands-on course that gives adult leaders the practical skills to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. The skills taught will (re)introduce the participants to most of the basic Scout outdoor skills from Tenderfoot through the First Class rank, and we teach you how to teach the Scouts these skills and the relevant BSA policies and regulations. Experienced campers and hikers are welcome, as are novices who are new to outdoor adventures.
This course is designed for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters, although anyone who is interested in helping them can attend. As a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster, basic training involves completing Youth Protection Training and Hazardous Weather Training (available online at https://My.Scouting.org), Scoutmaster Position Specific Training (SMPST) and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills. These courses qualify you as a “trained” SM or ASM, and they make you eligible to wear the Trained patch for either position. The next SMPST course will be on Saturday, October 12, 2024, 9 AM to 3 PM during Camporee at Camp Verdugo Oaks or online anytime at https://My.Scouting.org.

Cost: $50 per in-council registrant, $70 per out-of-council registrant
Fee includes meals, camp fees and handout materials
