Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills, 6/11-6/12

INTRODUCTION TO OUTDOOR LEADER SKILLS is a hands-on course that gives adult leaders the practical skills to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors.  The skills taught will introduce the participants to the basic Scout outdoor skills from Tenderfoot through the First Class rank, and we teach you how to teach the Scouts what you learn in this course.  
 

When: Saturday, June 11, 2022 - Sunday, June 12, 2022

Sunday, June 12, 2022, 3:00 PM.....Closing Ceremony

Where: Camp Verdugo Oaks, Castaic, CA

Cost: $35 for meals, camp fees and handout materials

 
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?  This course is designed for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters, although any adult who is interested in helping them can attend.  As a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster, basic training involves completing Youth Protection Training and Hazardous Weather (available on-line at https://My.Scouting.org),Scoutmaster Position Specific Training (also online at https://My.Scouting.org) and the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills. Thisqualifies you as a “trained” SM or ASM, and makes you eligible to wear the Trained patch for either position.
 
WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING? See the equipment list on the downloadable flyer below, and check the Scout Handbook or the Troop Leader Guidebook for other ideas on what to bring. All participants are required to bring a BSA Annual Health and Medical Record. Please fill out Parts A, B1 and B2 beforehand. You can download an interactive copy of this form below. As we get closer tothe date, any COVID-related precautions or requirements will be sent to registrants.Lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday will be provided. There may be black flies, so bring and use bug spray. It may be cold at night and hot during the day, so bring warm clothing in layers and your rain gear. You will be camping out Saturday night and taking a couple of short, easy hikes. Anyone with physical limitation, please contact the course director.
 
SIGN UP EARLY! Because we have to buy provisions for the course, we ask you to sign up early the deadline is 5 PM Thursday, June 9. Sign up early to make sure you have a seat! And bring a friend your job will be easier if you have some help right from the start.
