HAT - Basic Backcountry Skills For Women, 10/5-10/6

Attention Female Leaders:

Have you been wanting to go on more overnight camping and backpacking trips with your Scouts but feel you lack the knowledge necessary? Do you want to feel more comfortable, confident, and self-reliant for your adventures in the backcountry? Do you want to spend more quality time in the great outdoors with your Scouts?   If so, this is the course for you!

Verdugo Hills Council High Adventure Team Presents

This is an entry level training course FOR WOMEN, LED BY WOMEN. The goal is to empower more women to want to be out on the trail, and feel safe and comfortable doing so, whether it’s for a day hike or an overnight backpacking trip.

Topics include navigation, hiking techniques, campsite selection and setup, food & cooking, personal & troop gear, clothing & layering, weather, health & safety and water treatment as well as other topics you need to know to plan and conduct a safe, rewarding troop/crew outing. There is also an emphasis on the unique considerations necessary when taking female Scouts into the backcountry.

• Location: Little Jimmy Trail Camp, Angeles Nat. Forest. Instructions for meeting will be provided after registration. (Carpooling or drop-off at the trailhead is strongly recommended.  VHC is not responsible for theft or damage to personal vehicles.)
• Cost: $40, includes food.  Registration closes 11:59 PM, Sunday, 9/22.
• Open to registered Scouters, 18 years and older, limited to 12 participants
• Each person is responsible for bringing her own clothing and equipment from the packing list that will be provided. There will be a preliminary equipment check approx. one week before the course. Date, Time and Location TBD
