Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) 11/2/24-11/3/24
WHAT IS BALOO?
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is the Cub Scout Leader training required for any Cub Scout den or pack outdoor event, including pack camping, overnighter and Webelos den overnighters. It is comprised of two components – an online component* and a practical hands-on component. Both components must be completed to become BALOO-trained.
When: Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 8:00 AM to Sunday, November 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM
Where: Camp Verdugo Oaks, 38001 Golden State Hwy, Castaic, CA
Cost: $50 per in-council registrant, $70 per out-of-council registrant
Fee includes lunch, dinner and breakfast, facility fees, and handout materials
BALOO-Trained Leaders will be able to:
- Explain the focus of the Cub Scout camping program
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to plan and carry out a successful camping activity
- Describe the resources available to carry out this activity
- Discuss the requirements for a Successful Activity
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
BALOO participants are generally Cub Scout leaders, but sometimes they’re parents who may not already be part of a pack leadership team. This position is similar to the person in charge of the Pinewood Derby, the Blue & Gold dinner, or other special pack activity. S/he may or may not have already completed Cub Scout Leader Basic Training.
DEADLINE
Because we must buy provisions, we ask you to sign up early — the deadline is Wednesday, October 30th at 11:59 PM. Sign up early to make sure you have a seat! And bring a friend – your job will be easier if you have some help right from the start.
