Prerequisites: Basic Backpack Awareness Personal Equipment: Silva-type compass, pen or pencil and paper, plus basic materials for a short backpack and overnight in the snow. Course Description: This course is designed to provide to Scouting leaders, the knowledge and skills that will aid them in the planning and execution of winter outings in the snow. It consists of two sessions, an all-day indoor session where you will learn skills specific to snow backpacking/camping and a weekend overnight backpack where you will put the skills to use in the real world. In addition to specific information to supplement the skills areas already covered in Outdoor Leader Awareness course, new areas such as snowshoeing, emergency survival and ski safety will be included among others.
