Advanced Backpack Awareness

Who should go: Registered Scouters for Boy Scouts or Venturers who want to be trek leaders

Classes: November 20-22, 2009 at Camp Verdugo Oaks

Prerequisites: Outing Leader Awareness, Basic Backpack Awareness, Desert Awareness, Winter Awareness and backpacking experience for 5 or more nights, 25 Backpacking hours or more, long-term backpacking trip or a water trek trip of 50 miles or more, with 4 or more youth.

Registration form must be submitted in advance, in order to allow HAT to evaluate qualifications.

Personal Equipment:  Back Pack with equipment for four days including two Backpack lunches for yourself and favorite Backpack menu dinner for four (potluck).

Breakfasts will be furnished.

Cost:  $35.00

Course Description: This course is designed to review the knowledge and skills needed to lead long-term trips with youth. More advanced skills are presented and learned experiences of all are shared.

Additional requirements after completing this weekend portion of the course:

         Set up and lead a long term (5 nights minimum)

         Be an instructor in a HAT course to complete this course.
