Event Calendar Guidelines
The
Council Event
Calendar is a listing of important dates and events that are hosted by the
Verdugo Hills Council, or that affect its operation. The following guidelines
are used to determine if an event, holiday or activity should be published in
the Council Events Calendar:
Items that
are published in the event calendar:

Events that are under the control of the Verdugo Hills Council,
or where the council has a management interest (Camporees, committee meetings,
multi-council training events, etc.)

Events or holidays that effect the operation of the Verdugo Hills Council
(Legal holidays, Trading Post Inventory, etc.)
-
National BSA dates that have impact to the council at large
(National Jamboree, NOAC, OA Conclave, Scout Sunday, Scout Sabbath, etc.)

Other holidays or events specifically approved by the Executive Committee of
the Verdugo Hills Council. That exception list includes Armenian Genocide
Remembrance Day, Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur and Passover (Pesach).
Items that
are not published in the event calendar:

Events or holidays
that do not effect the operation of the council (days like Easter, Mother's Day,
Columbus Day, Lincoln's Birthday, LDS Pioneering Day, etc.) with the exception
of those days listed above.

Non-BSA informational Items (Daylight Savings Time, etc.)

Scouting events not under the control of the VHC, or where we do
not have a management interest (Catholic Scouting Retreat, Lutheran Scouting
Association Camporee, etc.)

Due dates, turn in dates, and the like. (These are not events,
unless, like a recharter night, there is an organized event for the activity.)
The Council Event Calendar is an
aid to unit planning, not the only source of
information for your unit planning. Prior to holding your annual unit program
planning conference, you should also make sure and have available:

Religious holidays that affect the individuals in your unit

Special days and events of your chartered organization
-
School calendars for the participants in your unit
-
Special days where a significant number of families in your unit may be
unavailable
